Alice Gasson is one of the two lead singers of Jukebox, whose career in music started from the age of 15, when she began singing and playing in her first function band in Manchester at various Weddings and Charity events up and down the country, as well as performing her own material at various gigs in the area. Her own passion for singing, and music generally, has never stopped growing and her love for being part of a great party band has become even more evident since working with Jukebox! |
How do you prepare for a gig? Do you get excited? Nervous?
Before any Jukebox gig I like to make sure I know the running order of songs and have warmed up vocally. I think it helps to be a little bit nervous before a gig, although I reckon excitement would be a better word for it, the performance itself doesn't make me feel nervous but knowing that we are helping to create someone's special day is definitely reason enough to make sure I'm putting all my energy into my performance!
What's your favourite song that Jukebox performs and why?
I think, for myself, I love performing 'Crazy In Love', mainly because it has a great energy behind it anyway, the band give their everything when playing it and it gets the people up dancing every time- which is always a plus when you're in charge of getting them dancing!
What song would you like to see Jukebox perform?
I'd love to see Jukebox perform some more 70's funk/disco- maybe some Earth Wind and Fire, Bee Gees or Chic- always great crowd pleasers!
If you could work with one musician dead or alive, who would it be? And you can only choose one!
That's a difficult one, ha! There are so many artists/musicians I would love to work with but, at the moment, I think I would have to say Nile Rodgers- for his song writing skills, approach to music generally and love of all things disco!
What do you do outside of Jukebox?
Outside of Jukebox I am currently coming to the end of my final year studying Music at The University of Salford. I also work with a number of other agencies/bands for corporate events, residency gigs and private functions- as well as keeping my own career as a solo artist moving along under my own name- writing, performing and recording my own Soul/R&B music. I do a lot of teaching outside of performing too, singing and piano tutoring, along with choirs- all of which I love doing!
What's your favourite part of a Wedding?
I think my favourite part of a Wedding, as someone who is there to provide the evening entertainment or music throughout the different parts of the special day, is definitely the last few songs of the night- everyone has had a great time and they really go for it with the dance moves!
In your opinion what's the best thing about Jukebox and how do we differ from your normal function bands?
One thing I have noticed from working with Jukebox, that differs from other bands I have worked with, is the great time that we all have together, before we play, when we are playing and even when we are tired and on our way home. The work that goes into a Jukebox gig really does carry over onto that dance floor- it is most definitely a team effort!
What are you looking forward to most with Jukebox in 2014?
More gigs! It's going to be a great year and I am definitely looking forward to helping to give more lovely couples the wonderful day that they've been planning for months on end!
